News from: City of La Quinta
La Quinta, CA: In partnership with the YMCA, the City of La Quinta will dedicate its Museum for priority enrollment childcare for currently enrolled YMCA families and essential employees, including first responders and health care providers. On March 20th, the Museum stopped services in compliance with Governor Newsom’s public health orders, but the City and YMCA will use the Museum to provide this much needed service.
“Caring for the sick and vulnerable is a unified effort and requires everyone’s care and participation”, said Chris Escobedo, the City’s Community Resources Director. Essential workers, first responders, and healthcare providers are on the frontline, and the City of La Quinta wants to continue playing a role helping the community emerge stronger. The plan is to provide childcare for those making heroic efforts and great sacrifices in combating COVID-19.
“We’ve developed a strict protocol to allow us to provide child care services to the children of essential workers and are glad that key partnerships can be strengthened during these times,” said Paula Simonds, President/CEO of the Family YMCA.
The community is indebted to all those that have given every ounce of spirit and courage as the world faces an issue of enormous scale and impact. The City’s heart goes out to all who have been affected by the outbreak of COVID-19 and everyone is encouraged to take a moment to thank a hero. Please help stop the spread by practicing social distancing, sheltering in place, and adhering to County Health orders and recommendations.
