Event from Fantasy Springs:
50 years ago, singer-songwriter Stephen Stills met singer-songwriter Judy Collins, known for her piercing ocean-blue eyes. Their tumultuous love affair would later be immortalized by Stills with his song “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes” and now the two legendary performers are reuniting for one night of incredible music at The Special Events Center at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino on Sunday, September 3, 2017.
Stephen Stills and Judy Collins met in 1967 and dated for two years. Stills wrote his legendary love song to Collins right after he left Buffalo Springfield, before he joined Crosby, Stills & Nash. “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes” is a five-section romantic epic brimming with heartfelt sincerity. The song has been ranked #418 in Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs Of All Time Poll, and 2017 will mark the very first time that Stills and Collins have been on stage together to perform the song.
Stephen Stills is known for his contributions to Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills & Nash, and for his solo work. He is best known for the hits “ For What It’s Worth” by Buffalo Springfield and “Love The One You’re With” from his solo debut, Stephen Stills. He’s a multi-instrumentalist and composer, and has the added distinction of being the first artist to be inducted into the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame twice in one night (for his work with CSN and Buffalo Springfield).
Collins is known for her eclectic palette as a solo artist, melding folk, rock, classical and jazz into a singular aesthetic. She’s earned five Grammy nominations including one for “Send In The Clowns” and has one Grammy win (for the 1967 single “Both Sides, Now”). Outside of music, Collins has published two memoirs, one novel, and, in 1975, was nominated for an Academy Award for co-directing the documentary Antonia: A Portrait of the Woman. Collins is also a lifelong activist.
Both Stephen Stills and Judy Collins have shaped modern music with visionary approaches, but their short fiery union remains a transformative era for the two artists. They’re eager to recapture that fire for the Fantasy Springs audience on Labor Day weekend.
