News from Rotary Club of Indio:
The Rotary Club of Indio proudly presents the 2018 Rotary Math Field Day (RMFD) for Middle School Children of the Coachella Valley. This year’s event will take place on Saturday, April 28 at John Glenn Middle School in Indio.
RMFD, celebrating its 24th anniversary, is a community wide event celebrating achievements in mathematics by Coachella Valley Middle School students. All three school districts in the Coachella Valley and private schools participate. We expect between 350-400 sixth, seventh, and eighth graders to participate. Students compete in a number of mathematical challenges winning recognition for themselves as well as for their schools. The Awards Ceremony begins at 1pm and the top schools at each grade level will be recognized as well as naming the Top Mathematician of each grade level. Who will win this year?
RMFD began in 1995 under the leadership of our deceased 4th District County Supervisor, John J. Benoit. As President of the Rotary Club of Indio, Benoit found that lack of funds in education for extra curricular activities was preventing Coachella Valley middle school students from participating in the Riverside Math Field Day. Through his vision, the Indio Rotary stepped up and organized this event. With the assistance of
Desert Sands Unified School District, we are proud to host the 24th edition of this great event for our local students on April 28th.
We invite any media interested in covering this event on April 28th to visit us at John Glenn Middle School – 79655 Miles Avenue in Indio. This is THE signature project of the Rotary Club of Indio. Please contact Don Casper, Club President and Public Relations Director for the Indio Rotary, for more information at [email protected].
The Rotary Club of Indio is a group of community leaders meeting to share ideas to make a difference in our community. Since 1949, our group of civic leaders share their time and energy to support our community. We meet weekly to network, hear speakers on various subjects and work on service projects including the Coachella Valley Middle School Math Field Day, Dictionaries for Indio Third Graders, and Scholarships for City of Indio high school students to further their educational pursuits. We meet Tuesdays at Noon in the Special Events Center at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino. Our club is always looking for new members. We are helping members become better leaders and in that process, we are helping communities become better communities.
