News from Riverside County:
Steven Waggoner, a retired educator and veteran active in many veterans’ organizations, will serve as Supervisor V. Manuel Perez’s appointee to the Riverside County Veterans’ Advisory Committee.
Waggoner’s appointment was approved unanimously, 5-0, by the Riverside County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday.
“Mr. Waggoner is well respected for his decades of involvement and leadership in local veterans’ organizations,” said Supervisor V. Manuel Perez. “He’s an exemplary person who has given back in many ways. We are fortunate he brings outstanding personal attributes and experience to help service members and veterans as the Fourth District representative on the county veterans’ committee.”
Waggoner, 68, served in the U.S. Navy from 1968 to 1971, which included duty in Vietnam. With help from the GI Bill, he attended Pepperdine University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in business and public management. “It is an honor to be appointed to the Veterans’ Advisory Committee for Riverside County,” said Steven Waggoner. “It is important that our elected officials understand the needs of the community for which they serve. Veterans are a large part of our community, and I will work hard for them and their families.”
The Riverside County Veterans’ Advisory Committee was established by the Board of Supervisors in 1979 to keep the Board apprised of the needs of veterans in Riverside County. The committee helps unify veterans’ organizations, promotes events pertaining to veterans, and serves as a support group for the Riverside National Cemetery. The committee holds several meetings and legislative breakfasts each year.
