News from Mission Springs Water District:
After nearly seven years, Mission Springs Water District has returned to the medal category in international water-tasting competition by securing the bronze award.
The Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting, held annually in Berkeley Springs, WV, is touted as “the world’s most prestigious” where this year water was tasted from all five continents from about 100 entrants, including 16 in the “municipal” category.
The “Perennial Watermaster” who oversees the tasting, Arthur von Wiesenberger, considers that repeat winners are a testament to the high quality water from each source and the event itself: “The consistency in winners from year to year with different panels of judges validates the choices…”
Randy Duncan, President of the MSWD Board of Directors, agrees with Wiesenberger’s assessment: “When you consider that different people taste these waters each year, and we consistently find our way into the top 10, including eight medal years, it leaves little doubt about the special water we have in our region.”
Jill Klein Rone, the Event Producer, noted that Mission Springs Water District is “one of the winningest waters in the competition over the years.” She went onto say, “Your great water consistently rises to the top!”
General Manager Arden Wallum stated that protecting water quality has been central to MSWD’s mission for decades. “Our water is of excellent quality for a reason. We have worked very hard with our customers for many years to ensure they understand how special it is,” he said.
Event organizers state that, “The municipal water category was a battle of champions with the water judged best in the world for 2018 — Clearbrook, British Columbia, Canada – also the biggest medal winner in the event’s history. The best water in the USA is Santa Ana, CA, another former gold medalist along with three of the next four winners, all American waters. The silver was won by the City of Hamilton, OH. Mission Springs Water District, Desert Hot Springs, CA won bronze.”
