In partnership with Library Systems & Services, Create Center for the Arts, and Dr. Ignacio Borensztejn, the City of La Quinta has repurposed its Creation Station to serve as a 3D printing center to provide needed materials to local health care providers. On March 20, the Creation Station stopped services in compliance with Governor Newsom and the City of La Quinta’s public health orders, but operation of the Creation Station has resumed solely to produce medical materials.
“At the City of La Quinta we believe it our responsibility to play a supportive role for local health systems,” said Chris Escobedo, the City’s Community Resources Director. “Given the potential spread of COVID-19 over the coming weeks, the shortage of protective gear will be dire and jeopardize the health of medical workers fighting the virus. The plan is to manufacture face shields for local hospitals and medical facilities.”
The safety and well-being of our community has been our top priority as the world faces an issue of enormous scale and impact. We understand this time can be challenging, and our hearts go out to all who have been affected by the outbreak of COVID-19. The City asks its residents, and beyond, to do their part in helping stop the spread by practicing social distancing, sheltering in place, and adhering to County Health orders and recommendations.
