Indio, CA – The Coachella Valley History Museum (CVHM) will host its fourth annual Dia de los Muertos celebration on Saturday, November 5 and Sunday, November 6 in Old Town Indio. The entire community is invited to attend this unique cultural tradition, featuring authentic Mexican cuisine, tequila tastings, a silent auction, live musical entertainment and community altars honoring departed loved ones.
A delicious dinner prepared by El Mexicali Café will be served at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 5. Doors open at 5 p.m. with Mariachis, local band Machin’ and tequila tastings by 88 Spirits. A viewing of altars will also be available on Sunday, November 6, FREE to the community. Sponors include Forest Lawn and Hot Purple Energy.
“We’re excited to once again be hosting this fun community event, which has grown steadily each year in size and scope,” said CVHM Board Trustee Gloria Franz. “We encourage the public to come enjoy the festivities and bring a special photo or token of a family member or lost loved one to place on the community altar.”
Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a holiday observed throughout Latin America and most strongly associated with Mexico, where it originated. On this holiday, it is believed that the dead awaken and rejoin the living, sharing in their celebrations.
General admission tickets are $90; $85 for museum members. A table for 10 is $800. Proceeds will benefit the Coachella Valley History Museum, which opened in 1984 with a dual mission of educating the public and preserving the region’s rich history.
