Coachella, CA: The City of Coachella awarded $430,000 in Coranavirus Relief Funds. This funding will assist Coachella residents and businesses that have been adversely affected by COVID-19.
“The distribution of the CARES Act funding will assist Coachella residents distressed by COVID-19 by not having to decide between feeding their families or paying their rent, mortgage,” said Coachella Mayor Steven Hernandez. “While the small business assistance awards will assist with expanding outside dining and tenant improvements to provide a safer environment for businesses as the economy opens up. Hopefully this will help us move forward as an essential community during these unprecedented times.”
The City received $629,352 in application funding requests. The $430,000 that is awarded will be used to help residents with rental and mortgage assistance, water bills, funerals, behavioral health, and youth enrichment. The Coachella based small business assistance will allow for expansion of outside dining or tenant improvements which may include but not limited to Plexiglas barriers, signage, or social distance floor marking materials.
“The prolonged COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact in our communities, especially on the working families that have now faced six months of economic uncertainty,” said Silvia Paz, executive director of Alianza Coachella Valley. “This support through the City of Coachella will help hundreds of city residents cover essential needs and feel more secure during this unprecedented crisis.”
