News from General Patton Museum:
Chiriaco Summit, CA: Among the most heroic patriots that our nation has ever produced, the Rosies are widely celebrated. And with good reason. “Rosie the Riveter” is a cultural icon of the United States, representing the American women who worked in factories and shipyards during World War II, many of whom produced ammunition and war supplies. These women sometimes took entirely new jobs replacing the male workers who were in the military. Similar images of women war workers appeared in other countries such as Britain and Australia.
And some are headed to our own Chiriaco Summit!
Louise Unkrick, a Rosie from Iowa will be on hand for the The 28th Annual General Patton Museum Veterans Day ceremony remembers the time vividly “I went down to Omaha after High School to work in a bomber plant” she said. “Me and the girls built B-29s. And broke records doing it”. Her story and that of others from Rosies across the nation will be shared and honored as they join the festivities at this year’s 28th Annual General Patton museum Veterans Day. The General Patton Memorial Museum located in Chiriaco Summit is a testament to the role General Patton and his Desert Training Center played in winning World War II.
This historic day will include visits from Congressman Ruiz, State Senator Stone, and Supervisor John Benoit. As well as the Bureau of Land Management CA State Director Jerome Perez. Palm Springs Mayor Robert Moon, along with Police Chief Bryan Reyes will be on hand for a special ceremony in honor of fallen Palm Springs Police Officers Jose “Gil” Vega and Lesley Zerebny.
